About Us

The Presbyterian Church in Harmony is a member of the Newton Presbytery and was founded in 1807.

Our Church is not a structure of mere wood, stone, and mortar.

This is the House of God for the People of God.

We have expanded our fields of service as lifestyles have changed, but the fundamentals of Faith and Godly life remain the same.  If you are new to our Church, we hope that this Web Site will help you understand our Church Community and  programs.  While some of our members are life-long Presbyterians, many more come from a wide variety of backgrounds, including Roman Catholic, Methodist, Baptist, Episcopal, Eastern Orthodox, and others.  Our congregation is  enriched by the ideas, talents, and gifts our members bring from such diverse backgrounds.

Gladly do we welcome new members.  Please contact the Church Office  for further information.

THE SACRAMENTS

The Presbyterian Church celebrates two Sacraments:  Baptism and The Lord's Supper (Holy Communion).

BAPTISM

Baptism is scheduled by prior arrangement with the Pastor and Session, and takes place during our Sunday morning Service.  Because it is the Sacrament of entrance into the Church family, at least one parent or guardian must be a member of the Church in order to present the child for Baptism.  Please speak with Rev. Higgs if you have specific questions about Baptism.

THE LORD'S SUPPER

The Lord's Supper is celebrated on the First Sunday of each month, and on other special occasions.  Christians of all denominations are welcome to take part.  Our denomination also provides that baptized children who are being nurtured toward an understanding of the Sacrament may take part.  The decision for a child to participate in Communion is a family one.  While we believe that Christ is spiritually present with us in Communion, the elements do not change into the

literal Body and Blood of Christ.

HARMONY PRESBYTERIAN CEMETERY

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.  May they rest in peace.

Our Cemetery was formally incorporated in 1917 in accordance with New Jersey legislation.
